Design

This year, I worked extensively with design across multiple platforms. While I frequently applied design skills in social media content using Canva, I also experimented with more professional platforms for layouts for print using InDesign. This section highlights my ability to use design to enhance storytelling, strengthen branding, and support clear visual communication.

Both of these are standard layouts I create for each magazine cycle. While the column layout has remained consistent for several years to maintain familiarity for readers, the Star Player design was fully rebranded this year through collaboration with the Editor-in-Chief and former Sports Editor. The redesign modernized the feature while preserving its purpose and visual clarity.

For the layout of Lighting Up Death Valley, I focused on creating a visually engaging design that draws readers into the story. I used a dominant image as the centerpiece to capture attention, complemented by subordinate images to maintain engagement throughout the four page piece. Additionally, I coordinated the color of the headline with the main image to create a cohesive and visually appealing design.

For the profile Crafting Success on Love.craft, I focused on using visuals to bring the story of the art studio to life. I incorporated numerous images to highlight the creative process and atmosphere, and used a bubbly design and bright color palette to match the story’s uplifting and inspiring tone.

For the layout of Swimming Towards Success, a Q&A, I focused on clarity and readability by organizing the text in a clean, legible format. I color-matched the headline to the accompanying images to create visual cohesion, and selected photos that effectively illustrate the subject’s role as a coach.

I also designed a social media template for holiday graphics. I published it in our Canva brand kit. The template also follows design techniques such as making sure to include white space, a centerpiece of art and maintaining consistent fonts. To ensure the graphic follows our brand on social media, I placed our logo in the bottom corner and used the same font as we consistently do. We have since used this graphic for several holidays: President’s Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Easter.

For our social media, I designed a schedule graphic for our program, which we now use for every schedule change or important date. The graphic follows our established brand with consistent fonts, a cohesive color palette and the inclusion of our logo. By maintaining these design elements, the graphic aligns with the overall look and feel of our publication while clearly communicating important information.

These are two trivias for which I designed every slide. I used small graphics related to the trivia's theme for visual aesthetics. I mostly used Canva for these and it went well. The process was quick!

I used canva to make this early release schedule to make it easy to read both visually and in text. The color squares focused readers' attentions especially with our main audience being CCHS students who greatly care to know the schedule!

This was originally a hot topic made for the website but it ended up on the social media. I used pink and red hearts to keep it on theme with Valentines Day.  I chose the font because it was fun and festive to go alongside the holiday. I included the boarder around the letters to draw readers' attentions.

This year, I have put a huge emphaisis on the importance of branding. Branding can mean a lot of things but here are a few ways we brand our social media:
